Dr. Vardeny is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Minnesota Medical School, and a Core Investigator at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Health Care System Center for Care Delivery and Outcomes Research. Her clinical practice is in the outpatient medication management of patients with heart failure.
Dr. Vardeny’s research interests include maximizing the benefit of pharmacologic therapy in patients with heart failure and optimizing vaccination strategies in patients with cardiac disorders. She has led several multi-center randomized, controlled trials of influenza vaccine in patients with high-risk cardiovascular disease and has received research funding from the NIH, FDA, DOD, and VA. She has served as the US National Lead Investigator, Executive/Steering Committee member for several industry or academic international interventional trials investigating novel therapies in patients with or at high risk for heart failure. Dr. Vardeny was a writing group member for the 2022 American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology/Heart Failure Society of America Guidelines for the Management of Heart Failure and has served on scientific review panels for the AHA and NIH.
