RV Failure, Mechanical Ventilation, and Right-Sided MCS: Heart-Lung and the Machines

September 27, 2025 12:00pm
September 27, 2025 12:30pm

Overview of the approach to assessment, imaging, and hemodynamics in the critical care setting. This session will also address how this information can predict response to therapeutic management.

Summary of the complex interactions between right heart hemodynamics and positive pressure ventilation in patients with concomitant pulmonary hypertension from left heart disease and in those with isolated right ventricular failure. Discussion will include optimal positive pressure ventilation modalities and settings to support right heart function.

Review of short-term mechanical circulatory support for the management of acute right heart failure and cardiogenic shock, including timing of escalation and criteria for optimizing patient selection.
