Pulmonary Hypertension and RV Failure in Advanced Heart Failure

This session will focus on pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and right ventricular (RV) failure and the impact of PAH and RV failure on considerations in left ventricular assist device (LVAD) therapy and cardiac transplantation. The first two sessions will focus on therapies for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) including current and emerging drug targets in PAH and underlying mechanisms of RV dysfunction. The next two sessions will address predictors of outcome, selection of recipients, and management of RV failure in patients post LVAD and cardiac transplant. The final session will review the role of palliative care in PAH and RV failure. This is a valuable session as PAH and RV dysfunction are associated with poor outcomes especially in the setting of LVAD and cardiac transplantation.
