Kathleen L. Grady, PhD, MS, RN, FHFSA, FAHA, FAAN is a Professor of Surgery and Medicine, Divisions of Cardiac Surgery and Cardiology at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University and Administrative Director, Center for Heart Failure of the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, IL. She has a background in cardiovascular nursing (and specific prior expertise in nursing care [as an advanced practice nurse]) of patients with advanced heart failure, including those who undergo heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support implantation. Dr. Grady is also an internationally recognized researcher, who has focused on health-related quality of life and psychosocial / behavioral issues of advanced heart failure patients who undergo these advanced surgical therapies. Her research has been supported by the American Heart Association (AHA) and National Institutes of Health (i.e., NINR, NIA, and NHLBI). Dr. Grady has 166 peer-reviewed publications. She has received many awards, including the HFSA Nursing Research Award, HFSA Nursing Leadership Award, and also the AHA Distinguished Scientist award and AHA Council on Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing Katherine A. Lembright Award in recognition of her lifetime research achievements.
