Let’s Celebrate With the 2023 HFSA Award Winners
 
The Heart Failure Society of America’s Board of Directors recently approved the 2023 HFSA award recipients. HFSA’s awards recognize the achievements of HFSA members and highlight the leaders of our association.


This year’s awards include:

  • HFSA Lifetime Achievement Award.  The HFSA Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes a lifetime body of work by individuals who have made a significant and sustained contribution to the field of heart failure. This year’s recipient is Randall Starling, MD, MPH, FHFSA of the Cleveland Clinic Heart & Vascular Institute
     
  • Distinguished HFSA Member Award.  The Distinguished HFSA Member Award celebrates a member’s body of work in the field of heart failure and their work and service to the Heart Failure Society of America. The Award is intended for non-physician members of HFSA. This year’s recipient is Sara Paul, DNP, FNP, FHFSA of the Catawba Valley Health System
     
  • Distinguished Leadership Award.  The HFSA Distinguished Leadership Award celebrates a leader in the field of heart failure in the areas of education and mentorship. This year’s awardee is Christopher O’Connor, MD, FHFSA of Inova Health System – Inova Heart & Vascular Institute
     
  • Pioneer Award.  The HFSA Pioneer Award is given to an innovator and pioneer in the field of heart failure. The Award notes the HFSA member’s innovative role in heart failure which helps to set the stage for future generations of heart failure providers. The 2023 recipient of the Pioneer Award is Jeffrey Towbin, MD, FHFSA, FACC, FAAP, FAHA of Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, Pediatric Cardiology
     
  • Nursing Clinical Excellence Leadership Award. The HFSA Nursing Clinical Excellence Award recognizes clinical nursing excellence by a registered nurse who works directly with heart failure patients, their families, and other nurses providing HF services. Laura Peters, FNP, FHFSA of the University of Colorado Health is this year’s recipient
     
  • Nursing Research Leadership Award.  The HFSA Nursing Research Leadership Award recognizes extraordinary achievement and excellence in nursing that improves outcomes of patient with heart failure. This year’s awardee is Miyeon Jung, PhD, MSN, BSN of the Indiana University School of Nursing
     
  • Outstanding Heart Failure Care Team Award. The Outstanding Heart Failure Care Team Award celebrates the accomplishments of a heart failure care team, collectively. This year’s team is the Pediatric Heart Failure Team at Texas Children’s Hospital
