James C. Fang, MD, FHFSA
Can you believe that there are heart failure providers and researchers that are not members of the Heart Failure Society of America? I can’t believe it either.
HFSA is the only professional society representing all members of the heart failure team: physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and scientists. And HFSA also includes our patient members, 1,500 strong. For patient members, HFSA provides practical and engaging programs and benefits, including Patient and Caregiver Day (we’re organizing two virtual Patient and Caregiver Days in 2024), Patient Education Modules and Heart Failure Awareness Week (this year from February 11-17).
For the more than 2,600 heart failure providers and team members, HFSA provides a community with resources to improve your clinical practice, get involved in the latest in heart failure science and research, and have opportunities to advance the field. As a member since its second year of inception in 1998, HFSA has been my professional home because of the like-minded members and the visibility it has brought me as a heart failure provider and specialist. To highlight just a few of the many resources HFSA offers:
- Education. From the Annual Scientific Meeting (this year from September 27-30 in Atlanta), to the AHFTC Board Certification Review (July 11-14 in Chicago) and our online offerings of Heart Failure Seminars, CardioBites and the HFSA Learning Center, we provide the most comprehensive and practical heart failure education available and in the ways that you want to access it.
- Practice. The Heart Failure Certification Program, the Optimal Medical Therapy-Heart Failure Certificate Program, the Heart Failure Clinic Database Initiative, and the upcoming Heart Failure Clinic Certification Program are designed to help you provide the best care possible as you practice heart failure medicine.
- Science and Research. The Heart Failure Research Network, the Heart Failure Research Foundation, HF StatsSM, and the Journal of Cardiac Failure (one of the premier heart failure journals in the world) let you learn and get involved in advancing new knowledge and breakthrough research in heart failure.
- Recognition. Fellowship designation (FHFSA), HFSA’s annual awards, speaking opportunities at HFSA events and programs, volunteer opportunities on HFSA committees and the Board allow us to give you the opportunity to be really involved in our community and give you the recognition you deserve for your professional accomplishments as a heart failure expert.
HFSA is the home of heart failure. Unique to HFSA is the warm, personal, and welcoming environment that our members feel at our meetings and throughout the year. My personal membership with HFSA has provided camaraderie and friendships, career growth and academic opportunities, and a wealth of knowledge. I am proud to call HFSA my professional home.
