Advancing the Future of Heart Failure Care Through the HFSA Devices Initiative
As we look toward the future of heart failure care, it is increasingly clear that device innovation will play a defining role in transforming patient outcomes, accelerating research and shaping how we deliver care across disciplines. The Heart Failure Society of America has long been committed to supporting clinicians, scientists and patients navigating the rapidly evolving landscape of heart failure devices. Building on HFSA’s past successes, the HFSA Board of Directors earlier this year approved a new initiative focused on heart failure devices.
The goal of the HFSA Devices Initiative is both simple and ambitious: to expand HFSA’s programs dedicated to heart failure devices in order to meet the education, research and engagement needs of clinicians, researchers, patients, caregivers, and industry partners. This effort builds upon our existing programs and sets the stage for new growth, deeper partnerships and broader impact across the heart failure community.
Education and Professional Development
Education remains at the core of HFSA’s mission and devices represent one of the fastest-moving areas requiring continuous learning. The 2025 HFSA Devices in Heart Failure Meeting, hosted on the Friday before the Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) was a great success. As part of this initiative, we will continue to enhance and expand this program, adding new content, broadening the range of sessions and fostering stronger engagement with corporate supporters who are essential to advancing innovation.
Our device-focused sessions during ASM will also continue to grow in number, sophistication and visibility. At next year’s ASM in Phoenix (October 9-12) we will be emphasizing a robust marketing strategy to highlight the depth of device content across ASM – including scientific sessions, HFSA-led programming and corporate-supported device activities. Our goal is to ensure that every attendee – clinician, researcher, industry partner, or trainee – can easily discover the full breadth of device-related learning HFSA offers.
Within HFSA’s CardioHub program, our rapidly expanding digital learning platform, we are committed to developing new modules and micro-learning opportunities dedicated to specific device technologies. By offering more concise, flexible and targeted content, CardioHub will help clinicians stay current with device innovation in real time.
Science and Research
HFSA’s leadership in scientific advancement is another central pillar of the Devices Initiative. Our Clinic Database already captures valuable information from heart failure practices across the country, and we plan to expand device-related data points, working collaboratively with heart failure clinics and institution. Importantly, this work will be complemented by rigorous institution-level confirmation to ensure accuracy and transparency.
We are also exploring the inclusion of heart failure devices as a dedicated focus area in HF Stats in 2026 and in future editions. Devices can play a greater role in understanding real-world care patterns, and their inclusion will strengthen the utility and relevance of HF Stats.
HFSA’s Scientific Statements Committee will be identifying opportunities for developing new HFSA scientific statements on device-related topics, with publication in the Journal of Cardiac Failure. These authoritative documents will support clinicians, guide best practices and ensure HFSA remains at the forefront of thought leadership in device-based diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
Patients and Caregivers Resources
Patients and caregivers often experience uncertainty when navigating device options, and HFSA is committed to providing clear, accessible and device-specific resources. We will be producing targeted patient and caregiver webinars focused on individual devices. Additionally, we will expand our patient education modules to provide practical, device-specific information that supports shared decision making and empowers individuals to engage confidently in their care journey.
The HFSA Devices Initiative positions us to lead, innovate and collaborate in ways that advance heart failure care for every stakeholder we serve. I am deeply grateful to our members, volunteers and corporate partners for your continued passion and partnership. Together, we will shape a future where a growing array of efficacious device-based options are accessible and optimized for patients living with heart failure.
Thank you for the vital work each of you does every single day.
