HFSA announced yesterday that the 2024 Impact Factor (IF) for the society’s flagship publication, the Journal of Cardiac Failure (JCF) increased to 8.2 from the 2023 IF of 6.7. JCF now ranks 19th out of 230 journals in the Cardiac & Cardiovascular Systems category.
IF is calculated based on the number of citations in a given year for the papers published during the preceding two-year period. The 2024 IF is the average number of citations in 2024 of all JCF papers published in 2023 and 2022. For more about how Impact Factor is calculated please visit Clarivate.com.
IF is just one indicator of the journal’s success. Since 2020, Co-Editors-in-Chief Robert J. Mentz, MD and Anuradha Lala, MD, have focused on building and measuring impact across several factors. A few key measurements to note:
- Submissions: The number of submissions to the journal have doubled since 2020, allowing JCF to showcase the best research and commentary of the heart failure community.
- Response Time: The time to first decision decreased by over 50% since 2020, so that authors receive timely decisions on their papers.
- Inclusive Leadership: Over the years, JCF increased the number of women on the editorial board leadership team by 50%.
- Growing HF Journal Community: JCF launched its daughter journal, JCF-Intersections, to make sure the multidisciplinary nature of heart failure research has a distinct home.
- Mentorship: The 4th JCF Peer Reviewer Mentorship Program launches this summer. Over 50 mentees have gone through the program to date.
With support from the heart failure community, The JCF Family of Journals continues to implement new ways of bringing high-impact articles to the medical field. JCF brings different perspectives, provocative discussions and new ways to engage with all audiences interested in heart failure.
