WASHINGTON, DC (MAY 20, 2025) — The Heart Failure Research Foundation (Foundation), an initiative of the Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA), announces the inaugural class of Emerging Leader Grant Recipients.
“Congratulations are in order for these very promising early investigators who are working to transform the lives of patients and contribute to the advancement of the field,” said Michael Felker, MD, FHFSA, HFSA President. “I speak for the entire HFSA Board of Directors and Research Committee when I say that we can’t wait to see how their research careers grow.”
In a rigorous, two-step application process that began last year, the HFSA Research Committee nominated two final candidates that were approved by the HFSA Board on May 7:
Joseph Palatinus, MD, PhD with his research study, “Myocarditis Triggers Heart failure in the Setting of Desmosome Mutations.” Dr. Palatinus is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Utah.
Yuri Kim, MD, PhD with her research study, “Single cell transcriptomic profiling of cancer therapy-induced cardiomyopathy.” Dr. Kim is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and an Associate Physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
The Foundation’s Emerging Leader Grants is a program open to all early-stage investigators who have completed their terminal research degree or residency – whichever is later – within the last 10 years. The goal is to help the next generation of investigators establish successful research careers.
The support of these rising researchers was made possible by the generous individual donors to the Foundation. To learn more and join them in supporting the next set of emerging leaders, visit hfsa.org/foundation.
