The Heart Failure Research Foundation (Foundation) works to improve the lives of patients by reducing the burden of heart failure through the advancement of scientific knowledge and promotion of breakthrough research. The Foundation, an initiative of HFSA, is the place where private philanthropy can collectively move the needle on heart failure research funding.
Our Emerging Leaders Grants program is open to all early-stage investigators who have completed their terminal research degree or clinical training and are within 5 years of their first faculty appointment. Our goal is to support new researchers in all areas related to heart failure, and this program is open to investigators in any field. After a rigorous review process by the HFSA Research Committee, the HFSA Board recently awarded two inaugural Emerging Leader Grants to:
- Joseph Palatinus, MD, PhD with his research study, “Myocarditis Triggers Heart failure in the Setting of Desmosome Mutations.” Dr. Palatinus is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Utah.
- Yuri Kim, MD, PhD with her research study, “Single cell transcriptomic profiling of cancer therapy-induced cardiomyopathy.” Dr. Kim is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and an Associate Physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
“Congratulations are in order for these very promising early investigators who are working to transform the lives of patients and contribute to the advancement of the field,” said Michael Felker, MD, FHFSA, HFSA President. “I speak for the entire HFSA Board of Directors and Research Committee when I say that we can’t wait to see how their research careers grows.”
The Foundation is administered through the HFSA, with HFSA covering 100% of the administrative costs so your entire donation directly supports heart failure research. Later this year, research awards for our Palliative Care Research Grant, supported by Patient Centered-Education and Research, will be announced.
The Foundation can’t keep investing in heart failure research without you – give your tax-deductible gift today. Every dollar you donate goes towards heart failure research, and our ability to open our Transformative Research Grants, which will help novel ideas grow.
